so i'm doing my 6 deployment and i'm in Afghanistan. We live in single wide trailers split into different rooms that only connect to the outside and our bathroom is a very small trailer that has three toilets, three shower stalls, and two sinks crammed into it. Obviously here or in Iraq we don't drink from the local water supply so we use bottled water. The water run to the bathrooms is obviously sanitized b/c we use it to shower and wash our hands but b/c it's sanitized means it's not going to give you a disease but drinking water with choline in it will make you shit your pants, but obviously it's not going to give cholara or you wouldnt be taking a shower in it! For some reason they always feel a need to put up a sign that says to "brush your teeth w/ bottled water" (again ignore that at least once a day you cover yourself with this water in the shower.) I do not like talking to people I don't know, ESPECIALLY when i've just drug myself out of bed and I get to walk in the cold to go pee and brush my teeth before getting to work hours before most of my coworkers!
As i'm brushing my teeth one of the security forces (cops) sgts that we have less than affectionally named "Chompers" for her amazing horse smile starts to wash her hands in the sink next to me and of course says "Excuse me Ma'am you're supposed to use the bottled water"
I reply "That's what the sign says, thanks."
Chompers says "Do you want me to get you a bottle?"
I laugh as i'm spitting out toothpaste and say "uh nope, the sink works."
Chompers takes a step towards the box of bottled watter (the boxes are covered in a black mold fyi) and says "are you sure? There's bottles right here."
I take the tooth brush out of my mouth, rinse my mouth out, and say "ok listen this water is sanitized. That does not mean that it's dangerous it just means that if you drink a lot of it you'll get the shits."
Chompers goes "well i just don't want you to get sick."
I say "i appreciate that but if this was going to give me disintary do you think you'd be able to shower in it?"
Chompers did not respond so i walked out.
hahaha, first story, if it wasn't for you, don't worry they get better
Nice story! Obviously her first time in theater. I was always scared to brush with the water too, until one day, i just completely forgot and did the usual routine in the sink, taking a few gulps and all. Nothing happened. God bless CE, for doing a good job, but I do understand the signs just to cover their asses...you know, in case...
